Deciding when and how to build your family is your right. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud La Porte we give you clear, judgment-free information so you can choose the birth control method that fits you best, and we start it during the same visit, no appointment needed.

Methods we offer at the clinic

Birth control pills. Taken every day at the same time. There are combined pills (estrogen and progestin) and progestin-only pills, which work if you are breastfeeding, smoke or have migraines with aura. Taken correctly, their effectiveness is over 99 %; with frequent missed pills it drops to around 93 %.

Birth control shot. One injection every 3 months (12 to 13 weeks). Nothing to remember daily and no estrogen. It is common for periods to become light or stop while you use it. After stopping, fertility can take several months to return, something to consider if you plan to get pregnant soon.

What the visit is like

• We review your history: blood pressure, migraines, smoking, previous blood clots, breastfeeding and medications, because some methods are not recommended in certain cases
• We run a pregnancy test before starting any method
• We compare options based on your routine, your health and your plans
• We start the method that same day when it is safe to do so
• We explain the effects you may notice in the first weeks and when to check in

You can come alone or with someone. Minors must come with a parent or legal guardian.

Follow-up and switching methods

With the pill, we check how you feel and your blood pressure at 3 months. With the shot, we give you the exact date of your next dose; if you go past 13 weeks, use condoms and come as soon as possible, since you may need a pregnancy test before the injection. If a method does not agree with you, switching is normal: you do not have to put up with irregular bleeding, headaches or mood changes that bother you.

What birth control does not do

Neither the pill nor the shot protects against sexually transmitted infections. If you have a new partner or several partners, combine them with condoms and get STD testing regularly. And if you had unprotected sex in the last few days, ask us about emergency contraception as soon as possible.
