Minor Surgery

Minor outpatient surgical procedures (moles, cysts, lipomas) with local anesthesia.

  • Outpatient procedures
  • Local anesthesia
  • Removal of moles, cysts and lipomas
  • After-care explained

That mole that rubs on your belt, the cyst on your back that flares up every so often, or the soft lump on your arm that has been growing for years can be removed in a single visit, under local anesthesia and without a hospital. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud La Porte we perform outpatient minor surgery with no appointment, in Spanish or English and at a flat self-pay price.

Procedures we perform

  • Moles and warts: removal by shaving or with a small incision when they bother you, bleed or have changed shape or color
  • Sebaceous and epidermal cysts: complete removal of the capsule so they do not come back, very common on the back, neck and scalp
  • Lipomas: removal of fatty lumps under the skin when they hurt, grow or are cosmetically bothersome
  • Skin tags: the small flaps of skin on the neck, armpits and groin, removed in minutes
  • Foreign bodies: splinters, glass, thorns or fishhooks embedded in the skin
  • Skin biopsies: taking a small sample to analyze a suspicious lesion
  • Ingrown toenail removal and abscess drainage, which have their own pages

What the visit is like

First the physician examines the lesion and tells you whether it can be treated at the clinic or whether a specialist is better, for example when a mole has features that require dermatological study. If appropriate, we do the procedure right then or give you a date if you need to prepare. The area is cleaned, local anesthesia is applied, the lesion is removed and closed with stitches or adhesive strips. Most take 15 to 45 minutes. When the lesion warrants it, we send the tissue to pathology and let you know the result.

Before the procedure

Eat normally, no fasting needed. Tell us if you take blood thinners or aspirin, if you are allergic to anesthesia or latex, if you have diabetes or a pacemaker. Wear comfortable clothing that leaves the area accessible and, if possible, bring someone with you if the procedure is in an area that would make driving difficult.

Afterward

You can go home right away and back to most jobs the next day; avoid straining the operated area for a week if there were stitches. Keep the dressing dry for 24 hours and then shower without soaking the wound. Stitch removal happens 7 to 14 days later and is included. A small scar remains and fades over months; use sunscreen so it is less visible.

What we do not do here

Large or deep lesions, tumors that require prior imaging, procedures that need general anesthesia, or cosmetic surgery. In those cases we guide you and refer you to the right specialist.
