Getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases does not have to be uncomfortable. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud La Porte we see you with no appointment, in a private exam room, with staff who speak your language and do not judge. The result is yours alone.
Infections we test for
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea, with a urine sample or swab
- Syphilis, with a blood test
- HIV, with a blood test
- Hepatitis B and C, with a blood test
- Trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections, with a culture
- Genital herpes when there are visible lesions
You can request the full panel or only the tests you are concerned about. The physician helps you decide based on your situation.
When to get tested
- You had unprotected sex or a new partner
- You have symptoms: burning when urinating, unusual discharge, sores, warts, itching or pelvic pain
- Your partner was diagnosed with an infection
- You are pregnant or planning to be
- You have multiple partners and want routine screening, ideally every 3 to 6 months
Keep in mind that chlamydia, gonorrhea and early-stage HIV often cause no symptoms at all. Testing is the only way to know.
The window period
Each infection takes a different amount of time to become detectable after exposure: chlamydia and gonorrhea 1 to 2 weeks, syphilis 3 to 6 weeks and HIV 2 to 6 weeks depending on the test. If the exposure was only a few days ago, we run the tests that are already valid and tell you exactly when to repeat the others.
Same-day treatment
If a test is positive, in most cases we start antibiotic treatment during that same visit and you can pick it up from our pharmacy. We explain how long to avoid sex and how to treat your partner too so the infection does not come back. For HIV or hepatitis, we refer you to a specialist and support you through the process.
Burning when urinating can also be a urinary tract infection; the urine test tells them apart. Women with discharge or discomfort can complete their checkup in gynecology, and men in men's health.
Real privacy
The visit takes place in a closed exam room and we discuss the result only with you. Because you pay directly, without insurance, no letter from an insurer arrives at your home listing the tests you had. Come alone or with someone, whichever feels more comfortable.
