Wound Care

Some wounds cannot be handled with a bandage: the incision after surgery, a burn from oil or steam, a sore on the foot of someone with diabetes, or a large scrape that got infected. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud La Porte we provide professional wound care and follow up until the wound closes, with no appointment and in Spanish or English.

Wounds we treat

• Post-surgical wounds: incision check, cleaning, dressing change and removal of stitches or staples when your surgeon indicates it
• First-degree and superficial second-degree burns from oil, hot water, steam, an iron or the sun; kitchen and industrial-plant burns are the most common ones we see
• Diabetic foot ulcers and wounds that have gone weeks without closing
• Scrapes and wounds from falls, with or without infection
• Infected wounds with redness, pus or a bad smell
• Blisters, friction wounds and injuries in workers who wear boots or heavy gear

What we do at each visit

We remove the old dressing, measure and photograph the wound to track progress, wash it with sterile solution, remove dead tissue if present (debridement) under local anesthesia when needed, apply the right dressing and bandage it. At the end you get a written plan: how often to come back, what to do at home and which signs to watch for. If the wound shows infection, the physician prescribes an antibiotic you can fill at our pharmacy, and we check your tetanus vaccine.

Dressings matched to the wound

Not all wounds heal the same way. Dry wounds need controlled moisture so new tissue can grow; draining wounds need absorbent dressings; burns benefit from silver or hydrogel dressings to prevent infection and pain at changes. We choose the material for each stage, and tell you what to buy if you prefer to do some changes at home between visits.

Diabetic foot: do not wait

If you have diabetes and notice a sore, a blister or a color change on your foot, even if it does not hurt, come that same day. Loss of sensation lets wounds progress without you noticing, and early care prevents hospital stays. We use the visit to check your glucose and A1C, because a wound will not heal well with uncontrolled blood sugar.

When to come back early

Fever, redness spreading beyond the edge, red streaks running up the skin, heavy pus, bad odor, increasing pain or a dressing that soaks through within hours. With any of these signs, come in without waiting for your next visit.

Our medical center is at 9606 Spencer Hwy Ste D, La Porte, TX 77571, on Spencer Hwy, open Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM and Sunday from 9 AM to 7 PM, which makes it easy to keep up with dressing changes without missing work.
